September 12, 2008 | FALL 2008 EUROPEAN CD Release TOUR with " The Romanian-American Jazz Suite"!
The Romanian-American Jazz Suite " we will be heading to Europe this FALL 2008 to promote the album on the old continent. The tour was posibile with the support of Romanian Cultural Institute, www.icr.ro. Starting in Bucharest, then Tallinn Jaazkar Fest, Brussels, Rotterdam, Luxembourg, Poznan, Brno, Wien and Paris. Response to the album was enthusiastic both from press and audience. Released by Jazzaway Records in Norway the album can be found througout the world. Co-lead by soprano sax master SAM NEWSOME and pianist LUCIAN BAN the project presents a multi-movement jazz suite based on Romanian folk music. CD & US Tour was posibile with the support of Romanian Cultural Center New York. It was really interesting to revisit my musical roots .... beautiful Romanian Folk music from a "jazz" perspective .... CHECK the ITINERARY Section for exact info ... we hope to see you there.

New CD " The Romanian-American Jazz Suite " was RELEASED in spring 2008 by jazzaway records. CD can be found througout Europe and US. Co-lead by soprano sax master SAM NEWSOME and pianist LUCIAN BAN the project presents a multi-movement jazz suite based on Romanian folk music. Done with the support of Romanian Cultural Center New York, the CD will be released in US with a US CD Release Tour at the begining of July 2008, followed by a European Tour in Fall 2008. Featuring Alex Harding on bari, Willard Dyson on drums, Sorin Romanescu on guitar and Arthur Balogh on bass. It was really interesting to revisit my musical roots .... beautiful Romanian Folk music from a "jazz" perspective .... CHECK ITINERARY for concerts & venues.

Finally the album with electronica wizard Silent Strike and Alex Harding is OUT ! CD sounds crazy & really interesting. Silent - www.silentstrike.ro - is a stunning talented electronica musician from Bucharest, Romania. Check his stuff .... This was really fun to work with different sound structures and methods.Not yet distributed outside Romania, but check their website - www.lastardamusic.ro - to get it from there. I will upload soon tracks from it ..... let me know what you think

In late summer 2007 I did a series of recordings combining electronica, sampling with keys and saxophone. It was done together with electronica wizard Silent Strike from Romania and my long time colaborator Alex Harding on bari sax and bass cl. Silent - www.silentstrike.ro - is a stunning talented electronica musician from Bucharest, Romania. Check his stuff .... This was really fun to work with different sound structures and methods. The CD will be released by LaStrada Music label in Romania. To be released officially sometime this year. Stay tuned for updates .....
January 15, 2008 | New project with singer, performer Sanda Weigl
Starting sometimes in 2007 I began colaborating with this incredible singer Sanda Weigl in New York on a project featuring Romanian folk and gypsy music and german cabaret. She's a unique performer and it's a pleasure to work with her. For one it gave me the occasion to transform and re-imagine the crazy gyspy music of Romania and at the same time to discover the great beauty of german cabaret music, Brecht, Hollander, etc. Featuring some crazy downtown NY musicians, Gerald Cleaver, Sam Bardeld, Sean Conly, Alex Harding, Charles Burnham and others this is a killin' project. We did a short tour in Romania in fall 2007 that was great and we're performing in NY quite regulary. An American Tour is in the works in Fall 2008. And a hopefully a recording soon .....
January 28, 2007 | Art of the DUO SERIES at Night & Day in Brooklyn
I will be starting an ART of the DUO SERIES at Night & Day / Biscuit BBQ in Brooklyn. It will be once a month on a Fri/Sat and will feature a different guest each time. We started with sax great Abraham Burton and it was incredible.I will be having people like reed player Bruce Williams, bassists Hill Greene and Jeff Carney, Sanda Weigl in a project featuring romanian folk & gypsy songs, vibes player Dan Mcarthy and others. The music will take place in their Night & Day room that features a baby grand piano.
November 23, 2006 | Lucian Ban TRIO feat Barry Altschul + HIEROGLYPHICS feat Mark Feldman at The Stone
I'll be performing two exciting concerts at The Stone in december featuring one of my favourite all times drummer, the great Barry Altschul on drums. First performance will feature the TRIO with Hill Greene on bass and then a special quartet with the great violonist Mark Feldman.

July 22, 2006 | Elevation Quartet will be performing at Dizzy's Coca Cola Club in October 2006
My new quartet - ELEVATION - featuring Abraham Burton on ten sax, Bruce Cox on drums and Jeff Carney on bass will have several appearances in early fall, including a stint at DIZZY'S Coca Cola Club - JALC. It features music written for the great sound & melodic gift of Abe Burton on ten sax, with incredible support from the veteran drummer Bruce Cox and one of the best bass players I've ever worked with. We hope we'll go into the studio soon cause this music needs to be documented. Meanwhile come and check our music at live performances.

The TUBA PROJECT cd is out and can be obtained at several stores (tower, etc) and through the label website www.cimprecords.com. It features the great BOB STEWARTand my longstanding colaborator Alex Harding along with J.D.Allen and the one and only Derrek Phillips on drums. The music is unlike anything else I've did before ...well mainly for the unique presence of Bob Stewart on tuba. I'll be on tour with my pal Alex Harding to Romania from July 23 till August 15th. We'll bve playing some Duet concerts and quartets / quintets with some great romanian musicians including our past colaborator the great Romanian sax player Cristian Soleanu.
